Georgia a most visited tourist place in 2018-2019, has announced a new visa program targeting the tourist with remote working or self-employment. With gradual reopening plan, the long-term visa will be issued for anyone who wants to stay for more than six months of period and work remotely in the beauty of Georgian culture and enjoy the nature overlooking mountains, riverbanks, rocky beaches and old castles.

Georgia’s Ministry of Economy has been preparing to update an online application for the request of a long-term visa that needs to be filled before traveling. The program aims to support the country’s tourism industry, which has been reduced due to coronavirus.

The Ministry of Economy is on to updating its website so the interested visitors can register to get confirmation documents. Visitors need to provide their personal information, travel insurance, and employment certificates. Besides, the visitors may need to make 14 days quarantine on their expenses.

Natia Turnava, Georgia’s economy minister, told Agenda.ge “Georgia has the image of an epidemiologically safe country in the world and we want to use this opportunity. We are talking about opening the border in a way to protect the health of our citizens, but, on the other hand, to bring to Georgia citizens of all countries who can work remotely,”,

Georgia was planning to reopen the domestic tourism on June 15. However due to increase in the new covid-19 cases, the government has pushed the opening of border to 31st July.

Currently, Georgia has 1,074 confirmed coronavirus cases and 16 coronavirus deaths.
