If you have been waiting for that airline refund due to lockdown over the last year then here is some good news for you. The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has asked airline companies to grant refunds to passengers for flight tickets that were booked during the lockdown of 2020.
Many people book tickets looking forward to their travels well in advance, but the 2020 lockdown wrecked any such plans. The MoCA seems to be displeased over the fact that refunds for cancelled flights have not reached passengers yet.
Reports suggest that MoCA chaired a meeting on Wednesday with airlines representatives. The discussion revolved around refund of credit shells (a credit note against a PNR that has been cancelled, and can be used for future use) of passengers.
According to an official’s statement to ANI, “MoCA Secretary has chaired the meeting today with all the airline companies regarding credit shells refund and expressed dissatisfaction towards airline companies who did not refund the money. GoAir and IndiGo have submitted their undertaking to the ministry that they have refund all the credit shells to the passengers.”
Moreover, the Supreme Court had also ordered MoCA to take care of credit shells, so that passengers can get their refunds after the March 31 deadlines.
India’s national carrier, Air India, has not managed to refund the total credit shells to its passengers. Sources suggest that the airline company is yet to clear five lakh twenty-five thousand passengers of their credit shells. This amounts to a total of INR 2000 crore.
